Your Breastmilk Contains Antibacterial Agents!

This is exciting! Yet another study has proven why breast milk truly is the best milk for your babies (and toddlers)! Motivated by the surge in bacterial resistance to antibiotics, researchers turned to breast milk. Scientists have previously studied the proteins, fats and sugars in breast milk and how they are constantly changing and adjusting to/for your child. They were primarily focused on the role of the proteins and the antibacterial properties contained within them. However, recently a team of chemists at Vanderbilt University shifted their focus off of proteins and onto carbohydrates. The carbohydrates found in your breast milk also contain antibacterial properties. Even better yet...those carbs increase the effectiveness of the antibacterial proteins present. TEAMWORK! Just to add to the endless list of health benefits of breast milk, scientists further admitted that the antibiotics found in breast milk "are clearly non-toxic, unlike most antibiotics."
